Douglas Cook General This is a very interesting shot. Clearly you can see the 4003. But, what others in front of it. Also, any idea what unit the picture was taken from? 2/9/2008 12:26:57 PM
Tony Fernandez General I suspect that the locomotive ahead of the #4003, is a class CSA-4 Challenger judging by the two cylinders/side and the smoke lifters. The last Challengers that meet that description and might have still been around at that date were #3708 (ex-#3975), #3710 (r/n #3977, now in North Platte's Cody Park), #3712 (ex-#3979), #3713 (ex-#3980), and #3715 (ex-#3982). The first locomotive in the string also has smoke lifters and could be either one of the Challengers I've listed, or perhaps one of the FEF-series. Hard to tell from without being able to determine the number of cylinders. 8/7/2008 11:44:07 AM
